Smoothie Time

Try some fruits you love with lesser favorites… It’s a great way to get kids to eat fruits they might not normally eat.

Try some fruits you love with lesser favorites… It’s a great way to get kids to eat fruits they might not normally eat.

One of the best ways to get kids to try new foods is to let them be involved in the process - like cooking. Kids of all ages can do tasks in the kitchen. A fun recipe to make with kids is a smoothie since it's always fun for a child to help use a vitamix, blender or food processor.... (Of course, please watch your children when they are pushing the buttons to prevent any injuries.)

As many fruits start to go out of season, consider using frozen fruits. It's a great way to add variety and nutrition to your child's diet while providing foods with the most nutrients.

Bananaberry Celery Smoothie

1 banana (frozen without skin)

1/2 c frozen strawberries

1/2 c frozen blueberries

2 stalks celery (without tops)

1 c plain yogurt

1 tsp honey

  1. Place all ingredients in blender, food processor, Vitamix, NutriBullet… and blend until smooth.

Pour into a fun cup and let your child select his or her straw.  Try substituting other fruits and vegetables. Again, let your child be involved in the process of choosing the fruits or vegetables to maximize chances they will try it.
